Welcome to The Boot Inn

drink and eat near Ullswater
The Boot Inn nestles in the Eskdale Valley, overlooked by Scafell, Scafell Pike and Harter Fell, to name but a few.

Eskdale is a remarkable Lakeland valley and the tiny hamlet of Boot is the beating heart of it. Cupped amongst England’s highest mountains the Boot Inn is ideally located for those seeking rest, relaxation and refreshment either before or after voyages of adventure or exploration. The tortuous Hardknott Pass, guarded by an ancient Roman fort, is only for the brave hearted who wish to travel east to or from Ambleside and the Central Lakes. The famous Ravenglass and Eskdale steam railway follows the road and river as they lead westward to the wonderful Lake District coast at Ravenglass, the National Park's only seaside village, with world class attractions such as Muncaster Castle and its owl centre close by or Eskdale’s sister valleys of Wastwater (including Britain's Favourite View of Wasdale Screes) and peaceful, little-visited Ennerdale to explore and enjoy. Keen walker or mountaineer? You’ll think you’ve died and gone to heaven!

Whether you want to amble gently alongside the clear waters of the river Esk or take a high-level hike or climb far above the valley floor to the highest peak in England there will be an adventure to suit you.

The Boot Inn itself dates back to at least the 17th century. Refurbished and sensitively renovated, it retains much of its historic character and charm. Quality, fresh, locally sourced home-cooked food is the core of our ethos alongside clean and comfortable accommodation all at sensible prices. A varied cellar of well-kept ales, wines and spirits with friendly and professional service is enhanced by a cosy bar complete with log fire or a spacious conservatory with stunning views. A lovely garden to enjoy when the weather allows completes the picture. Of course, children and dogs are welcome too.
